Ioannis Karydis was born in Athens, Greece in 1979. He currently is an Assistant Professor at the dept. of Informatics, Ionian University, Greece with specialisation on Multimedia Content Technologies. He received a BEng in Engineering Science & Technology from Brunel University, UK in 2000, an MSc in Advanced Methods in Computer Science from Queen Mary University, UK in 2001 and a PhD in Mining and Retrieval Methods for Acoustic and Symbolic Music Data from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2006. From June 2006 to February 2007 he worked as a post-doc researcher in Music Databases at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. From Feb 2007 to Dec 2019 he was an adjunct lecturer and experienced researcher at the dept. of Informatics, Ionian University, Corfu, Greece. He was part-time Academic Staff at the Hellenic Open University for the Master's in Information System course, teaching "Specialization in Software Engineering" (2013-14) & "Fundamental Specialization in Theory and Software" (2017-18). From December 2014 to May 2015 he worked as a post-doctoral experienced researcher in the field of Music Information Retrieval at the Institute of Language & Speech Processing, Greece, while from Feb. 2019 to Dec 2019 he was a research associate at the School of Computer Science, Manchester University, UK. His research interests include music databases, music information retrieval (indexing & searching), music mining, music object representation and cultural informatics. He has more than 80 publications in conferences, journals, chapters and books. On 2013 he co-founded and was the managing director of Creative Web Applications P.C. (www.cwa.gr) up until Dec 2019.
